A note from the President, Mary Sedillo
For those of you who missed it, the Nevada Paralegal Association (“NPA”) held their Annual Seminar and Paralegal Day Luncheon at the Rio Pavilion on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The seminar was a big success, and we are hoping to encourage and receive an even better success rate next year.
Our speakers at the event were James O’Reilly, Esq. on Elder Law, Jason Walker on Estate Planning and Probate, Key Note Speaker – Senator Richard Bryan, Discovery Commissioner Bonnie Bulla, and Patrick Lindemann on Paralegal Ethics.
The evaluation forms were very positive regarding the event. Most agreed that it was what they expected, they learned something new, the food was very good (continental breakfast, lunch, and afternoon cookies), and the cost of the seminar was fair. Some of the suggestions for topics included: Discovery (electronic & written), Legal Research, Motion Practice (state/federal), Legal writing, Immigration Law, Patent Law, Real Estate Law, and Trial Preparation.
NPA also received positive feedback from the vendors regarding the Vendor Fair. The Vendor Fair was held during registration, first break, and lunch time. Each registrant for the seminar was required to visit all of the booths and get their registration cards stamped with the vendor’s initials. Drawings for prizes were held and included various prizes such as: tickets to Chippendales, gift certificates to Olive Garden, Starbucks, spas, and gift baskets. The NPA drawing was held at the last break and the lucky winner won a IPOD.
A special thanks to our vendor sponsors and participants: Quivx, Sarnoff, TrialVantage, Legal Process Service, Depo International, Litigation Document Group, Compex, Rimkus, Lexis/Nexis, WestLaw, Project Real, Casa, Clark County Bar Association, College of Southern Nevada, and University of Nevada Las Vegas.
The donations from the vendors are what made it possible for NPA to hold this seminar and we are extremely grateful for their contributions.
